c. 1250. CURTAIN WALLS: Built on outcrop of rock.
Coursed rubble. Flush parapet. Allure. Enclosing roughly
quadrangular court. KEEP at N.W. angle: Semi-circular on
exterior. 3 storeys. Slit windows. Unvaulted. Ruinous.
ENTRANCE at S.E. angle: Pointed arch approached by
forestair (built 1860 in place of former drawbridge).
GATE-HOUSE behind entrance: 17th cent. 3 1/2 storeys.
Harled. Corbie-step-gabled. Pedimented dormers. Angle
turret, (turnpike stair). Interior renovated. TOWER at
N.E. angle: Semi-circular on exterior. 2-storeys. HOUSE
adjoining Tower: 18th cent. 1 1/2 storeys. Lean-to.
Roofless. Doorway approached by fore-stair. WELL in front
of House.
