1325-30 (incorporating earlier work).
UPPER COURTYARD Remains of rectangular double-walled enclosure. Rubble; no roof. Within, King Robert I built hall, kitchen, chapel, etc. of which there are only vestiges.
LOWER COURTYARD Remains of large rectangular enclosure adjoining to N.E. Rubble. Traces of 2 drum towers on N.E. wall, of square towers on S.W. wall, and W. corner.
KEEP Added by King James IV c.1495. Substantial remains of square tower on S.E. of lower courtyard. 4 storey and attic. Rubble; roofless. Parapet with continuous corbelling, entrance at N. corner; loopholes. 2-storey square addition at N.E. side.
